It’s most likely that you don’t have the Adobe Photoshop software to open them. Photoshop is awesome software, but the price isn’t so awesome for those of us who are on a budget. So if you don’t own a copy then here is how you can still open and use .psd files.
First you will need to install Paint.net if you don’t already have it.
Then you will need to install the plugin called Open PSD files in Paint.net. Make sure that the Paint.net program is closed before you download and install the plugin
Here is how to install the plugin:
1. Download the PSD Plugin for Paint.net Here
2. Unzip and copy Photoshop.dll file and paste in Paint.net subfolder FileTypes. The file location should look something like this - C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\FileTypes
3. Now open Paint.net, it should pick up the plugin automatically. You can check by selecting “Save As” and see if the option to save as a .psd file.
If the option to save as a .psd file is there then you installed the plugin correctly – whoot whoot! Another way that you can check to see if the plugin installed correctly is to open a psd file like you would open any other image file using the menu bar, file, open and select the file to open, click open and you should see your psd file.
If you don’t see the option, then I suggest checking out the download page and contacting the developer listed.
